Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of frequently asked questions about acupuncture in general and my practice in particular.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions that I am not addressing below.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Generally speaking, no. Acupuncture needles are much much thinner than the needles you may have experienced during a visit to a Western doctor. You may feel sensations such as heaviness, tingling, or pressure. Most clients report a deep sense of relaxation and sometimes fall asleep during the treatment.
What conditions can be treated with acupuncture?
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of conditions: External injuries and pain conditions, internal ailments such as digestive issues or hormonal imbalances, insomnia, anxiety, allergies and much more. Please refer to my treatments pages to learn more about what I am treating.
How many treatments
will I need?
As a general rule, acute conditions will resolve much faster than chronic ailments. The longer you have been dealing with a certain health issue, the longer it will usually take to resolve. As an example, an acute ankle sprain can be helped with 2-3 treatments. Longstanding insomnia may need 12 treatments or more, including herbal therapy to improve. I always recommend to begin with 4 treatments once or twice per week and then we will reassess.
I hate needles, can you still treat me?
Absolutely yes! While acupuncture is the most commonly used modality in a modern Chinese Medicine practice, there are many other tools we can choose from. Chinese herbal medicine stands on its own as a healing modality, and I employ herbs, tinctures and food-grade medicinals. Other examples are acupressure, moxibustion, specific massage techniques such as cupping and gua sha.
Do you take insurance?
I do not. I can provide you with a Superbill that you can send to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Please check with your carrier for applicable benefits.
How do I prepare for my treatment?
Please wear comfortable clothing with pants and sleeves that can easily roll up to your elbow and knees. If possible, do not arrive overly hungry and/or full.
Which forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, personal checks, credit cards, Venmo.
